Language
Moroccan Arabic (Darija) is the official language of Morocco; however, French is widely spoken. English is becoming increasingly popular in the university-aged crowd, and may be heard in tourist areas.
Insurance
The organizers are not responsible for medical, travel or personal claims. Participants are advised to contract an insurance policy covering health and accident, loss of baggage and cancellation (trip and registration) insurance.
Letters of Invitation
Delegates can click here to create their own letter of invitation for the congress. This letter cannot be used for a visa application.
Visas
Many nationals, including those from the US, Canada and the UK, do not need a visa to enter Morocco as tourists. As visa requirements change frequently, it is strongly recommended to check with the Moroccan embassy in your country before travelling.
Without exception, your passport must be valid for at least six months after you enter Morocco. Your passport will be stamped upon entering the country, which will allow you to stay for 90 days. No entry fees are charged.
If you require a visa and you are booking your hotel within the SIU block by using the services of the SIU Housing Bureau, please request your visa letter when making your reservation. You will simply need to check the corresponding box and provide the following information:
- Complete first and last names as listed on your passport
- Home address
- Passport number, passport expiry date
- Travel itinerary
If you do not wish to book within the SIU block, and you are a citizen of a country requiring a visa to enter Morocco, you will have to ask the hotel where you will be staying to produce a letter for you.
Tax
There is a value-added tax (VAT) in Morocco anywhere between 7 and 20 percent, which is included in the cost of basic goods and services. There is also a Tourist Promotion Tax (TPT) which is added to the cost of accommodations, varying between 5 and 15 MAD (0.60 and 1.81 USD) per person, per night, depending on rate of accommodations.
Please note that both the Mansour Eddahbi and the Atlas Medina hotels are now sold out.
