The Opening Ceremonies signal the official start of the Congress and set the mood for the meeting. Between speeches from SIU dignitaries, enjoy some local entertainment planned especially for SIU delegates.

Welcome Reception

Exhibit Hall, ICC Berlin

Included for all registered participants.

Following the Opening Ceremonies, join colleagues and exhibitors for the customary Welcome Reception in the Exhibit Hall. This is not only an opportunity for Industry to introduce themselves and their products but also for delegates to meet with other attendees.


Monday, October 17

SIU Oktoberfest Night

1900-2300

Included in registration fees for delegates and registered accompanying persons.
Additional tickets are available for purchase at a cost of €110 each.
Dress code: casual

Berlin Station, formerly known as the Dresdner Bahnohf, is an historical building that opened in 1875 and ensured train service to Dresden, Prague and Vienna. Closed in 1882, the station was re-purposed as a mail centre from 1913-1997, and finally, it was recently re-opened to host social events.

This spacious venue will take on an Oktoberfest theme and offer SIU delegates the chance to enjoy the typical dishes served during these celebrations, dancing and games of skill, and of course, beer. The lighthearted atmosphere is a perfect opportunity to socialize with your local hosts and colleagues from all over the world.

Two exciting options are available to participants:


Option 1

A. Private Visit to New Museum

B. Private Visit to New Museum with Dinner
1830-2230
Price: €105 per person
Dress code: business casual

Includes:
• Entrance to the New Museum
• English-speaking guides
• Transfer to Museum Island from the ICC Berlin
• Transfer to restaurant from Museum Island
• Buffet dinner

Museum Island—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—will open the New Museum for the sole enjoyment of SIU delegates. During the evening, knowledgeable guides will be available to answer questions.

Once visitors have taken advantage of the intimate museum visit, those who select Option A are free stroll the island and stop for dinner or a snack at one of the many restaurants and cafés within walking distance. More information regarding dining options will be provided to registered participants in due course.

Guests who select option B will be transferred at 2045 to an authentic Berlin restaurant where they will enjoy a German buffet dinner.

All guests will be transported to Museum Island from the ICC Berlin at 1815. The museum will be open from 1830 until 2230. No return transfer will be provided for either museum option.

Spree Dinner Cruise

• Transfer to and from the ICC Berlin
• Buffet dinner

Berlin is a colourful and vibrant city that makes an impression on each and every visitor. Departing from the ICC Berlin, you will enjoy a relaxing cruise and a buffet dinner. Aboard the cruise, you will see some of the most beautiful sites and impressive architectural creations.

Discover Berlin from a new perspective as you navigate down the river, enjoying sweeping views of Berlin by night. You will pass the Berlin Cathedral, Museum Island, the Reichstag (Parliament), the Federal Chancellery, Bellevue Castle, Charlottenburg Castle and many other architectural highlights.

Participants who wish to cancel their registration for any of these activities will receive a full refund (less 25% for administration charges), provided a written request is received by the Congress Office on or before September 5, 2011 (by email to: congress@siucongess.org or fax: +1 514 875 0205). The Congress regrets that requests received after this date will not be eligible for a refund. All approved refunds will be issued after the Congress.

Gala Banquet at the Schlüterhof German Historic Museum

Tickets may be purchased at a cost of €180 when registering.
Dress code: formal

The Gala Banquet is a formal, black-tie event that brings together SIU dignitaries and attendees to officially mark the end of the Congress and welcome the start of a new SIU year. Celebrate the hospitality of your German hosts, including Local Organizing Committee Chair Prof. Margit Fisch and SIU President Prof. Joachim Thüroff, and start planning your trip to Fukuoka, Japan for SIU 2012. This is also an opportunity to congratulate Professor Thüroff on his successful term as SIU President, and welcome the incoming SIU President for 2011-2012, Prof. Mahesh Desai.
